Caregiver Visa Renewal and Permit Extension
A foreign caregiver's B/1 work visa is temporary and must be renewed periodically. A renewal handled late can break the continuity of lawful employment, so mark the date in advance rather than waiting for a reminder.
This guide covers when to start, the documents usually required, what to do if the visa is about to lapse, and the different tracks families hear about.

When to start the renewal
- Start several weeks before expiry — processing times vary with the Authority's workload.
- Note the visa expiry date as soon as it is issued.
- Status and validity can be checked in the Authority's online service.
- Changing employer, work region or caregiver requires updating the registration, not just a renewal.
Documents usually required
- The caregiver's valid passport, with validity beyond the requested extension.
- A valid employment permit in the patient's name.
- Proof of payment of the relevant authority fees.
- Up-to-date medical documentation for the patient, where required.
- Valid medical insurance for the caregiver.
If the visa is about to lapse
A caregiver whose visa has expired may not continue working, and care at home can be disrupted. Contact your licensed bureau immediately to check whether the extension can still be arranged, and in parallel arrange interim care cover.

Who is responsible for the renewal?
The employer — the family or patient the permit is issued to. The licensed bureau accompanies the process.
